Registering NFC Fobs
Every student and staff member needs an NFC fob registered before they can use the kiosk tablet to clock in and out. This guide explains the two-device registration process.
What You Need
Your computer — Signed into Branimi (app.branimi.com)
The kiosk tablet — Powered on, connected to Wi-Fi, showing the kiosk idle screen
An NFC fob — The MIFARE 13.56MHz key fob to assign
Step-by-Step Registration
On your computer, go to the Students or Staff page
Find the person who needs a fob and click the Register Fob button (gold pill button)
A modal appears on your screen showing the person's name and a 60-second countdown
On the kiosk tablet, the screen automatically switches to an enrollment screen showing "Please tap your fob on the reader now" with the person's name
The person taps their fob on the tablet's NFC reader (usually the back or center of the tablet)
Back on your computer, the modal detects the scan and shows the fob ID with a Confirm button
Click Confirm to save the fob assignment
A success message appears. The person can now clock in and out with that fob.
Troubleshooting
The countdown ran out (60 seconds): Click Try Again to restart the enrollment. Make sure the kiosk tablet is on and connected to Wi-Fi.
"Fob already registered" error: This fob is assigned to someone else. Each fob can only be linked to one person. Either use a different fob, or un-register it from the other person first.
The kiosk doesn't show the enrollment screen:
Check that the tablet is connected to Wi-Fi
Check that the kiosk is showing the idle screen (Elayne and Co. logo, clock, "Tap your fob")
The kiosk checks for enrollment sessions every 3 seconds, so wait a moment
The fob tap didn't register:
Hold the fob flat against the back of the tablet for 1-2 seconds
Try moving the fob around slightly — NFC readers have a specific sweet spot
Make sure it's a MIFARE 13.56MHz fob (the correct type for the tablet)
Re-registering a Fob
If a student loses their fob and needs a new one, or if you need to swap fobs:
The button on the Students/Staff page will say Re-register Fob (instead of Register Fob) for people who already have one
Follow the same process — the new fob replaces the old one
The old fob will no longer work for that person
Tips
Register fobs in batches — It's efficient to have a stack of fobs and go through the student list one by one during a quiet moment.
Label your fobs — Consider putting a small sticker with the student's name or number on each fob so they're easy to identify if lost.
Keep spare fobs — For new students or replacements.
